A Little Bit Of The History of Horse Racing
Formalised horse racing started (like so many things in the modern world) with the Greeks! Then just like so many other events it was passed on to the Romans who quickly learned to become obsessed with the nature of the sport. The origins of racing in the United Kingdom though began with the importation of Arabian stallions during and after the Crusades. The combination of the stock from Middle East and the breeds in Europe led to the emergence of a swift runner with a steady build. I can’t imagine it was too long after that we started gambling on the outcome! From here it has spread around the world with most countries welcoming horse racing in one form or another.
Whether it is to gamble or simply to enjoy the spectacle of the race, horse racing is as popular now as it ever was. It’s just a shame that there isn’t more of it available to watch live, because watching such majestic beasts in actions is one of the greatest sports events to watch live!
